6 Things I Don’t Do in My Business
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go the distance, take a team”, this is a key concept to understand if you’re a business owner looking to scale & grow.
At some point, it can’t just be you running the show. As your clientele grows, the demand for your services grow, you can only do so much. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people talking about what they DO to grow a business, but I want to talk a little bit about what I DON’T do.
These are things I’ve taken off my plate as a business owner that I feel have truly helped to grow my business. Delegating tasks and outsourcing is what has given me more time, freedom, and flexibility. Everything I’ve dreamed of as a business owner!
Don’t get me wrong… delegating is HARD, especially if you’re a recovering control freak like me. But, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
You’re faced with a decision at some point - keep doing it all alone and burn out, OR start hiring out. Let’s talk about the things I started delegating and outsourcing…
#1. Customer Service
If you’re running a growing business, there’s no reason you should still be the point person for customer service. I got to a point where this was no longer serving me and it became really stressful. Outsource this so that you can focus on the income-producing activities for your biz!
#2. Booking Appointments
No more texting your clients! Set up some boundaries and get a system in place where they can book their own appointment online 24/7. No more of that “I can squeeze you in on this day”, direct them online. PERIOD! This will be a huge time-saver for you.
#3. Laundry
This is a super simple task to delegate to someone else! I liked using a laundry service that will pick up, wash, fold, AND deliver. Saved me SO much time. Plus, you can use that extra time that you would have been doing laundry to take on ANOTHER client, spend time with your family, or even treat yourself to a bubble bath.
#4. Monthly Mass Emails
This was a huge one for me. I still oversee the content and creative aspects of this but I’ve outsourced this task to someone else who does all the heavy lifting.
#5. Editing My Podcast
Believe it or not… I actually edited my podcast for YEARS but then I started to hate it. Most of the time, editing took me longer than the actual recording so I decided to hire out. I have someone else who also helps me write the show notes copy.
#6. Shipping Products
BIGGEST game changer! This may not be relevant to all estheticians but if you are an esty who ships products or are thinking about it, delegating this out would be a smart decision long-term.
When we started shipping, it was just little me at first handling it all. But back then, I was still seeing clients full-time, and as my product line began to grow I quickly realized I needed help. That’s where I brought Hailey in and she took over the entire shipping process. For 2 ½ years, she packaged and shipped ALL of our orders by hand in the spa’s backroom.
In the midst of 2020 when Hailey was literally drowning in packages (a good problem to have) our business kept growing. After months of back and forth, we decided to take the plunge and move all of our products to a warehouse and fulfillment center.
Now, the fulfillment center stores all our products and ships them too. Giving Hailey the opportunity to focus on putting her energy into other important tasks to help Kasey Boone Skincare™ grow. (P.S. Hailey still manages the warehouse & shipping but she isn’t packaging over 500+ orders a month by herself, so that’s huge!)
It all starts with a decision…
Just like starting your business began with a decision, scaling & hiring out is also a decision. It can be hard and scary at first to let go of some parts of your biz and you may not always find the right person for the job the first time… I like to think about it like dating. It may not be EASY but I promise you that this will be the key between staying as you are and GROWING your business.

So glad you all said it’s okay to delegate back end jobs to others. I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Cosmopolitan. First time going to the show. I’ll have to stop by to meet Haley one day.
